John Kurtt Alumni Coach of the Year Award

Long-time Benton Community (Van Horne) girls track and field and boys and girls cross country coach Marty Thomae is the 2009 recipient of the John Kurtt Alumni Coach of the Year award.

Thomae has guided the Bobcats to six top three finishes at the girls state track and field meet including state titles in 1997, 2007 and 2008 and three state cross country championships in girls competition (1998, 1999, and 2000). His girls track and cross country teams have combined to win 19 WaMac conference titles, and his boys teams have earned the honor twice.

The John Kurtt Alumni Coach of the Year award has been given to a college alumni involved in coaching in either the high school or collegiate ranks each year since 1962.
